One of my favorite times of the year is the start of the Little League season. Little League was a lot different when I was a kid. We never had a parade and the field was half in the parking lot at our school.
Left field usually

had a car parked in it during school hours. At recess as the left fielder I can remember catching fly balls between the parked car and the school building.

April School Vacation

We didn't go far from home this year for April vacation, but then again there is a lot of things to see and do right around area.

There was a feral kitten rescue mission in Greenfield, Ma and some time spent with grandparents.

We found some art on display at the Shelburne Museum and checked out all the great natural history at the Fairbanks Museum.

Helping Out

I got to help out with this project recently. It is always a treat to ride around in the Northeast Kingdom, but when you get to ride around bearing gifts it is an even bigger treat.

Kevin went to Florida

Kevin went to Florida for some education and some vitamin D. The weather was perfect which made being inside a little challenging. But the programing was top notch so it all seemed worth while.

Rotary

Rotary International awards a Service Above Self award as its highest honor for Rotarians worldwide. The award recognizes
individuals who have rendered exemplary humanitarian service with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts. The Essex Rotary Club mirrors those
criteria when selecting individuals on a yearly basis to be honored by our club.

Phil and Louise Kolvoord have volunteered and supported a myriad of agencies and causes in our Essex and Vermont community for over 50 years.
The Essex Rotary Club believes that their lives exemplify the humanitarian and educational objectives of the Foundation and presented them with
a Service Above Self award.

Camping

We spent lots of time tromping around in the woods and skiing on the beaver pond. Animal tracks were abundant but we never saw any critters. We made pop corn and our meals on a camp stove and played farkel in front of the fire. We slept on wooded bunks wearing most of our winter gear including hats and mittens. We didn't change our clothes or wash up until we got home.

Cabin Camping

It has been a mild winter and camping is one of our favorite family activities. So we joined the Green Mountain Club and rented a cabin in the NE Kingdom for the weekend. We found the place in the dark with a little help from a local neighbor. Mother nature saw us coming and the mild winter turned into real winter as we arrived. It was 3 degrees the first night and the high for the weekend was 15.

Opening Day

We had a wonderful time at the Essex Junction Little League opening day this year. So many children excited to be a part of team and ready to let the fun begin. Kevin, Don, and Barry manned the cameras while Jamie worked with parents to collect and organize the envelopes. Thank you kids and parents for your patience and smiles. We hope you enjoy all 2011 baseball memories!

PPA Imaging

I wandered out to San Antonio, TX to attend the Imaging convention. It was time well spent. I did a tiny bit of sight seeing, wishing that I had time to do a lot more. I visited the Alamo and the Texas Ranger Museum. American history has become one of my favorite subjects. Fabulous restaurants everywhere you turn. I give Casa Rio high marks but I mostly ate convention food. Happy hour at the top of The Tower of the Americas was another highlight. 750 feet high, not your everyday happy hour. The programing was first rate, but you had to get there early to get a good seat.

Photos at the Fair

I was asked to judge the photography entries at this year's Champlain Valley Exposition. It turned out to be a rather big job. There were a lot of images to look through and many of them were excellent.

Some days you get the storm....Some days the storm gets...you!

Some days are sunnier than others. This day started out sunny, then took a turn for the worse. It only took about 40 minutes to create a mess that would take a good many man hours to clean up.

A very fun assignment early this summer. Four properties in Maine for the Finard Properties Co.
